Mumbai based Indian artist, Dileep Sharma was honoured with ASIA BELT award at the recently held SIPA-2008 at Seoul, Korea
SIPA (Seoul International Print Art Fair), is an Art Fair dedicated to the Edition Works of Print and Photography Art.
Every year the SIPA art fair committee selects a promising young Asian artist for the ASIA BELT award.
This year 70 art galleries, from 13 countries, participated in SIPA-2008 which was held from 18 October to 22 October, at Seoul, Korea. Art Intaglio was the only Indian participant.
Art Intaglio showcased prints of Achyut Palav, Jehangir Sabavala, Jogen Chowdhury, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Paramjit Singh, Paresh Maity, Prokash Karmakar and Yogesh Rawal.
Bharat Bhavan International Print Art Biennale
The 8th Bharat Bhavan International Biennale of Print Art 2008 opened at the Roopankar Museum of Fine Arts, at Bhopal on 1November 2008.
333 Indian artists had submitted 799 prints and 52 international artists from 31 countries, submitted 132 prints. The jury comprised of Martin King of Australia, Dattatraya Apte and Rm Palaniappan of India, eminent print makers and grand prize award winners in earlier Bharat Bhavan International Print Biennale, selected 197 prints of 164 Indian artists and 65 prints of 50 international artists.
The grand prize was awarded to Jo Ann Lanneville of Cannada, Rew Hanks of Australia, Hyunju Kim of Korea and Prasannakumar Nagarajan of India.
A special prize was awarded to Naorem Rajesh Singh of India.
Honourable mention certificate was awarded to Masahiro Fukuda, Ayako Yoshii, Haruko Cho, Minoru Suganuma, Tomaya Uchida of Japan, Md. Anisuzzaman Anis of Bangladesh, Chandramohan Srilamantula, Maripelly Praveen and Ajit Dubey of India.
Artist Manjit Bawa passed away
Artist Manjit Bawa passed away in his home at Delhi, on Monday 29th December 2008, at the age of 61, after being in coma for 3 years, He was born in Dhuri in Punjab and studied art at the Collage of Art in Delhi.
His paintings depicted a unique mythological iconography, of painting animals, with bright and vivid colours in background with graded tones, reflecting a theme of compassion, love, hope, peace and joy.
He is survived by a daughter Bhavna, and a son Ravi.
