Flute Player
In 'Flute Player', Burman invokes the world of the solitary child who invents a universe of play and dream around himself; or who is lost in melodies of his own devising while others engage in communal entertainments around him. The owl, the clown and the other young figures around the work's protagonist could be projections of his own mind; or companions, or alter egos. Whatever the explanation, and each new explanation enriches our understanding of the work, we remain entranced by Burman's gift for producing archetypal pattern that take us back into the mixed exhilaration and melancholia of childhood, offering insight into-our choices.
